PRESSURE - Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque author of Build Your Game.

PRESSURE
“You can practice ten hours a day, but if you.can’t handle the pressure, it was all a waste.”

Ewa Laurance

One of the best ways to learn how to handle pressure is to compete with better players as often as possible. Top players will punish you every time you make a mistake and you’ll feel the heat. If there’s a little cash on the line, now you’re in the frying pan!

In fact, many professional players, having honed their skills on the road, say that gambling is the only way to get comfortable with pressure.

When your hard–earned cash is on the line, you learn to bear down on every shot and with more experience, you’ll figure out how to win.

The top players distinguish themselves by how they react under fire. They use pressure to bring out their best game. Everyone experiences pressure, even world–class players. The main difference between them and lower ranked players is how they handle it.

You can practice playing under pressure by doing drills where you keep score or have to make a certain number of shots. Playing the ghost or playing weaker players with a big spot are also effective.

Make yourself work hard. Eventually you’ll be rewarded for your effort!

You’re telling me if I can’t stand the heat, jump into the frying pan. Yes!
