PROBLEM SOLVING

“You don’t drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.”
-Edwin Louis Cole

Problems require solutions they rarely go away on their own. The first challenge is to identify them. Make an honest evaluation of your game and single out all of your weaknesses.

The second step is more fun. Imagine your pool game without those shortcomings! Stretch a little. Look into the future and see how well you could play five or six years down the road.

The third step is pure work. Figure out what stands between you and that vision. Look for a way to overcome each of your weaknesses.

This is a time for being practical. Create a short list of things you can do. Do not try to solve them all at once. Instead, line them up like targets at a shooting range and fire away at them one at a time.

The final step is to create a detailed action plan—what you will do and when you will do it. Address specific skills and any techniques associated with them. For example, you will need a straight stroke to make a table length draw shot.

Are you willing to pay the price and put in the time and effort? Great—get busy!
