AN OPEN MIND - Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque author of Build Your Game.

An Open Mind

“Any moment you could reach a turning point that could change your game forever.”

-Phil Capelle

TO IMPROVE in this game, it’s smart to keep an open mind. New thoughts and ideas spring from all sorts of people and situations, providing a fresh and never ending source for improvement.

When a change opportunity comes knocking on your door, be willing to attempt it. Try it, even if it appears strange and different. Evaluate it for all its potential. If it shows merit, incorporate it into your game. If not, then let it go.

Pool has a long and colorful history and it just keeps on changing. The game of today is not the game of yesterday. It has changed dramatically.

Stances are less upright, stroke mechanics are different, new breaks are available, and knowledge, more than ever, is being shared from player to player. Even the equipment, from cue sticks to tables, has continued to develop and improve. And so must you.

A willingness to entertain new ideas allows old habits to step aside and new ones to take center stage. It allows for the possibility of new beginnings.

An open mind encourages learning, and invites positive change. Keep your mind open and give yourself the chance to discover the many roads to improvement.

Your mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
