ACT THE PART - Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque author of Build Your Game.

Act the Part

“He’s got a walk…that’s so stinking good. He stalks the table. He’s a steam roller.”

-Joann Mason–Parker

CHAMPIONS HAVE a certain way about them. They project a confidence that says, “Yes, I belong at the top.” If you want to be a champion, start acting the part.

It’s no secret that virtually all top players emulated a sports hero when they were kids. Imagining yourself at the top is emotionally uplifting and a powerful technique that charms your vision into reality.

So pretend a little. Pick a player who inspires you and watch how they move around the table. Imagine stepping into their body and taking the shot with their stroke.

Observe how they enjoy their successes and note their reactions to failure as well. Take it all in, then become an actor and play the part.

While you’re at it, insure that you remain poised. A calm and confident mind translates into positive body language. That in turn signals that you are in control, and projects an aura of invincibility.

If your opponent feels that you are unbeatable, he’s already in trouble and the match is yours for the taking. So take it with your poised demeanor and bow. You have played the part well.

Put yourself in the movies.

Imagine a part and act it out.
