TAKE IT TO THE BANK

“…to master the bank game, concentrate on a center ball hit and a draw stroke.” -Wade Crane

Improving your banks is a surefire way to pick up your game. A lot of matches come down to a bank shot, so it’s worth unraveling their mystery to have them in your arsenal.

Wade Crane suggests using a center ball hit with a draw stroke. Back spin on the cue ball can transfer forward spin to the object ball. This can get it rolling before it reaches the rail, and a rolling ball gives the truest rebound off the rail.

By using this technique, you control the action of a ball as it bounces off the rail. That makes the return angle easier to judge and utilize.

Many good bankers use a firm speed for the majority of their banks. Balls rebound at different angles depending on speed and a firm speed gives good, consistent results.

It’s also worth noting that english transfers less with a firm speed. Therefore, any inadvertent english applied to the cue ball has less effect on the object ball at a firm speed. Any spin picked up by the object ball by contact with the cushion is also reduced.

Banking has many variables. Start with a center ball hit with draw and a firm speed and you’re on your way!

Firm speed and a center ball draw stroke scores the bank.
