See What You Want

Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque, author of “Build Your Game!”

“…think where you want to put the ball, not where you don’t want it to go.”

Billy Casper

START EVERY SHOT with a positive result clearly pictured in your mind. Science offers plenty of evidence that proves that visual rehearsal is one of the keys to peak performance. If you have trained and know the shot, your body can take a visualized picture and turn it into a positive result.

There are many reasons for this and the Law of Dominant Thought has received a lot of support. It states that your dominant thought tends to attract a similar outcome.

It’s as if your thoughts have a self–fulfilling prophecy. If you’re worried about nicking a ball and scratching in the side pocket, don’t be surprised when it happens! It may sound like voodoo, but it’s been proven with athletes of all levels, from amateur high school students to Olympic Gold Medalists.

Hall of Fame golfer, Jack Nicholas, said he imagined every shot in great detail. When he actually hit the ball, he was just replaying the movie!

Always focus on good results. If a cluster poses a risk of getting hooked, imagine taking the cue ball right past it and to perfect position. You have trained hard and your body knows how to perform. Create your pictureand trust yourself!

Always focus on what you want.

Never focus on what you don’t want.
