It's All Perception - Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque author of Build Your Game.

It’s All Perception

“It all depends on how we look at things and not how they are in themselves.”

-Carl Jung

WHEN YOU MISS position, don’t beat yourself up. Accept the result and move on. If you focus on the mistake, it keeps you stuck in the past, stealing valuable energy from the present shot. The truth is that brooding over mistakes won’t change a thing. So get over them quickly and move on.

After a positional error, you may need some discipline to focus on the next shot with positive expectation. But a positive attitude is exactly what is needed to give you the best chance for success.

If you struggle with this idea, turn it around. Put yourself in your competitor’s shoes. You’re sitting in the chair watching your opponent run out and he misses a shot and leaves the cue ball in a tough spot. He’s made the runout difficult, but aren’t you happy to get up out of the chair and come to the table? It’s all perception!

You’re not in a position to win any game while you’re sitting in the chair. So when you miss position, appreciate the fact that you’re still at the table. Make the best of it.

Developing an attitude to see the positive in every single moment keeps you focused on the present shot. In addition, it will empower you to keep on playing your best!

Don’t beat yourself up over missed position.

Focus on the next shot. Make it and run out!
