Headphones - Viking Cues Tip of the Week with Mike Roque, Author of "Build Your Game"

Headphones

“Headphones are the equivalent of a “Do Not Disturb” sign.”

-Audra Quinn

HEADPHONES invite you into a world of sound. They shut the world out and allow you to listen to music that suits your personality without a single distraction. They block out all the typical poolroom distractions such as cell phones, conversation and loud music.

It’s no wonder more pool players are using them. Who wants to listen to railbirds give a running analysis of every shot you miss or wisecracks made by your opponent?

More importantly, music has power. It creates specific moods and affects your mental state. It can inspire you into action or calm you down.

Music can serve two main functions. It can raise your energy level preparing you to perform with enthusiasm or it can relax you when you need to be calm and focused.

Choose a wide variety of styles. They can be symphonic pieces or rock songs like, “We are the Champions.” Blues, jazz, R&B, anything goes as long as it makes you feel good or brings up a good memory. Not all tournaments allow headphones, so make sure to check with the officials.

Using your favorite music is an easy way to get comfortable in a competitive situation. It’s a ticket to playing in the zone!

Try using headphones.

They might be the missing ingredient!
